Gargrave is a pretty village around 7 miles from Malham, with its spectacular limestone cove and scar. In the village you will find a selection of places to eat along with a small selection of pubs, cafes and shops. Gargrave is a fantastic base for exploring this part of Yorkshire. Four miles away is the ancient market town of Skipton with its historic castle and High Street. On the border of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this is an ideal centre for walking, cycling and touring.
In 2014 Yorkshire hosted the world-famous Tour de France Grand Départ. After a royal send-off at Harewood House, the riders raced through Otley, Ilkley, Skipton, Kettlewell, Aysgarth, Hawes, Reeth, Leyburn, Ripon and the Stage One finishing point, Harrogate. Stage Two started in York as the yellow jersey departed for Sheffield, via Knaresborough, Silsden, Keighley, Haworth, Hebden Bridge, Elland, Huddersfield, and Holmfirth. The visit of this iconic cycling event has left a lasting impression on the villages and towns that were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the peloton, so much so that in May 2015 the first Tour de Yorkshire cycle race was held as a fitting legacy to what was a grand Grand Départ.
