Rome, Italy

Posted on October 4th, 2012

They don’t call Rome the “Eternal City” for nothing. This ancient city built on the banks of the Tiber has timeless appeal and a perpetual lust for life. With so many cafes and lively piazzas, and a passion for food unlike any other, Rome practically invented “La Dolce Vita”. How can you not enjoy the sweet life when you’re surrounded by so much artistic beauty? Rome’s many wonders span the centuries, from ancient Imperial ruins, to the Renaissance master works, to the fashionable designs found in all the boutiques.

The Roman Forum is where you’ll find the archaeological treasures of the ancient empire. Within the walls of the Colosseum, you can easily envision a world of gladiators and chariots. Piazza Navona is full of Renaissance charm and is said to be the most beautiful in Rome. A visit to Vatican City, the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, will leave you in awe as you marvel at the glorious Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. And after you’ve had your gelato and cappuccino, go ahead and toss a coin inn the Trevi Fountain to ensure your return.

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside

Posted on April 23rd, 2012

Going for a gentle walk on the beach has more of an impact on your emotional well-being than it does going for a stroll in the park, according to a recent study.

Findings by the European Centre for Environment and Human Health reveal that there are psychological benefits to people living near the seaside and that it can make you feel better.

The study showed that many locations based outdoors invigorated positive feelings of enjoyment, refreshment and calmness. But the researchers found that visits to the coast were the most beneficial and that trips to urban parks had the least effect.

The data was gathered by surveying 2,750 participants across a two-year period and examining their engagement with the natural environment. It was presented at the British Psychological Society’s meeting in London.

What is a Staycation?

Posted on April 7th, 2012

The term ‘Staycation‘ has been used a lot recently in the news and we want to look and see just what a Staycation really is.

One definition would be that a Staycation is when someone spends their holiday at home and visits local attractions and events. Another definition is when someone takes a holiday in their own country. The latter is becoming more and more popular with holidaymakers.

It is easy to understand why holidaying in your own country has increased in popularity, when you think that travelling abroad can, at times, get complicated. Currency exchange, Air fare, Passports, Vehicle hire, Language translation, can all be a little confusing. Whereas with a Staycation you can forget the passports (but don’t lose them), and have no worries about paying air fare supplements simply for packing a suitcase that weighs as much as a well fed elephant.

There is of course nothing to stop you travelling abroad in search of a sun-kissed beach or a city break, but it only makes sense to consider what you already have within easy reach. To book your Staycation click here

The plane that looks like a dove

Posted on April 4th, 2012

British Airways has repainted the first of nine A319s with a dove design to mark a ‘certain’ sporting event taking place in London this year.

The design is the result of a contest, run by the company with the aim of promoting British talent in the run-up to ‘the London sports event’.

Brighton-based designer Pascal Anson says he wanted to turn something ordinary into something extraordinary, while playing with people’s perceptions of flying objects.
