Where Is Poldark Filmed?

As the final season of Poldark plays out on BBC One, we take a look at the beautiful locations where Poldark is filmed so you can visit and perhaps walk in the footsteps of Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark.

The popular TV series originates from the Poldark novels written by Winston Graham and was first broadcast on the BBC between 1975-1977, with a Robin Ellis staring as Captain Ross Poldark and Angharad Rees staring as Demelza Poldark (née Carne). Fast forward to 2015 and Poldark episodes were back on our TV screens with an all-new Poldark cast including Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson, Heida Reed, Luke Norris and Jack Farthing.

Here are just a few iconic Poldark filming locations and places of interest around Cornwall and beyond.

Chavenage House / Trenwith House

Known in Poldark episodes as ‘Trenwith House’, the fictional home of Geoffrey Charles Poldark, but in real life, the stunning Elizabethan house goes by a different name, Chavenage House. Located near Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Chavenage House is open to the public between May to September.

Porthgwarra

The setting of a memorable scene from Poldark series 1, in which Demelza watches from the clifftops as Ross swims in the clear waters below. Porthgwarra is a beautiful fishing hamlet located in West Cornwall.

Porthcothan

A picturesque cove framed by grassy dunes, Porthcothan Bay Beach has been used as Poldark’s Nampara land. This sandy beach is located near St Merryn, Cornwall.

Poldark Mine

In real life, Poldark Mine is a visitor attraction located near Helston and is Cornwall’s only complete underground tin mine.

St Agnes Head

St Agnes Head is home to the iconic engine house featured in the Poldark TV series, an integral landmark of the fictional Nampara Valley. Picturesque St Agnes Head is only 2 miles from the beautiful village of St Agnes, Cornwall.
