Situated just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake is the attractive village of Bassenthwaite itself. This charming settlement retains its traditional, rural feel and boasts a stream which winds through the outskirts of the village in addition to whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a well-maintained green and a real ale inn, full of character. Bassenthwaite Lake offers rolling hillside scenery and remains one of the most picturesque places in England. Points of interest nearby include Mirehouse - a grand home and gardens on the shores of the Lake - Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the wider region are within easy driving distance whilst the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The towns of Cockermouth and Keswick and close by and both host weekly markets and a good range of other amenities.

The cottage was cosy and had everything we needed for a long weekend family gathering. It was a joy to come back to at the end of a day walking. We loved the peaceful surroundings and amazing views (once the fog lifted!). The outside area and gardens are beautifully kept.
