Okehampton is a busy market town on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and near the highest and most dramatic areas of the moor, where Yes Tor rises to a height above 2000 feet. To the north of Okehampton are Devon hills where small farming villages nestle amidst woods and fields with plenty of gently flowing rivers. The fabulous Roadford Reservoir offers a multitude of watersport activities and fishing opportunities.
Devon has quite a few claims to fame such as being the backdrop to many films, including; War Horse - starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, and directed by Steven Spielberg. Did you know that Agatha Christie, Reverend John Russell, Sir Francis Drake, and Sir Walter Raleigh all hailed from Devon? Agatha Christie went on to become a best-selling novelist, Reverend John Russell developed the Jack Russell Terrier, Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the world, and Sir Walter Raleigh became a famous explorer.
South Devon is home to over 20 miles of Torbay coastline which is otherwise known as the 'English Riviera'.
