Starting with the Yorkshire Coast: Whitby with its iconic abbey, famous for inspiring Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a must see and don’t forget to enjoy some fish and chips by the harbour. Further along the coast (south from Whitby), you’ll find Robin Hood’s Bay which offers picturesque coastal walks and sandy beaches. Scarborough is Britain’s original seaside resort and has an excellent choice of attractions and amenities to enhance your holiday by the sea. Notable mentions should also go to the coastal resorts of Filey, Runswick Bay and Staithes.

Moving more inland you’d regret not visiting Yorkshire’s capital, the city of York. Featuring a skyline dominated by its stunning Minster, York provides something for everyone whether that is a guided tour of York’s chocaholic heritage or a leisurely stroll along the River Ouse. A vibrant nightlife and a long list of scrumptious restaurants mean that once the sun goes down you don’t have to stop enjoying this great city.

Yorkshire is fortunate enough to have two National Parks, both with their own charm and character. Venturing into the scenic Yorkshire Dales means you will be in for a treat. The Yorkshire Dales National Park provides endless walking opportunities and a brilliant mix of historic architecture and modern conveniences. No visit to the Dales would be complete without visiting the delightful market town of Skipton, known for its medieval castle and eclectic high street shops. Hawes is a picture-perfect town with a big claim to fame as it is home to a certain cheese (Wallace and Gromit’s favourite!). Grassington is not only a lovely town but also has its very own annual festival; the Grassington Festival has been delighting locals and visitors for decades and takes place every June.

The North York Moors National Park supplies outstanding scenery and breathtaking views. Located on the banks of the River Rye is the town of Helmsley with its market square and castle. Nostalgic fans of the television series Heartbeat will recognise the village of Goathland (or should that be Aidensfield). The North York Moors has had starring roles on the big screen too, Harry Potter enthusiasts will know that the Hogwarts Express was filmed on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The market town of Pickering is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and a weekly market each Monday.

Located in the heart of Bronte Country - an area made famous by the Bronte sisters (best known for ‘Jane Eyre’, ‘Wuthering Heights’, and ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’) - you will find the picturesque village of Haworth, home to the Bronte Parsonage Museum.

East Yorkshire is not without its own tourist delights, including the town of Beverley with its racecourse, Hornsea with its award-winning beach, and Bridlington with its choice of graceful promenades.

Yorkshire holiday cottages can be used as a base to explore this extraordinary region and the advantages of a self-catering break mean you can try out the local cuisine.
